Explanation of the Different Bible Versions (or translations)
Why is this important when ordering a Glory Be! banner? Because to make your banner special for your Confirmand for years to come, the focal point--the verse--needs to be depicted in a manner that will remain understandable and appealing. I would like to use whichever translation your Confirmand prefers.
But what is the difference between the different translations?
We are all probably familiar with the King James translation of the Holy Bible. But in recent years different groups of Bible scholars have gone back to the original Greek manuscripts and translated the text using modern English. Because of this you will find that the wording in the various translations will vary. Although the exact choice of words or sentence structure is different in each translation, the meaning is identical.
Here is an example (using Philippians 4:13) of how verses can vary when using the different translations:
King James: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
New International Version: I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
New Living Translation: For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.
The Message (described as a modern-day paraphrase rather than a translation): Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.
To select the Bible version you prefer please use the drop-down menus provided by each Confirmation Banner group. If you prefer to use a version that is not listed in the menu select "Other" and send me an email to let me know which version you would like.
